Argeo Paul Cellucci (April 24, 1948 – June 8, 2013) was an American politician and diplomat from Massachusetts. A Republican, he served in the House of Representatives and Senate of Massachusetts before being elected the state's lieutenant governor, a position he held from 1991 to 1997 under Governor William Weld. When Weld resigned in 1997 after being nominated US Ambassador to Mexico, Cellucci became acting governor. He then was elected governor in 1998, and served until 2001 when he resigned to become US Ambassador to Canada, a post he held until 2005. In 2011, Cellucci announced he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease). He died from complications of the disease two years later. ==Early life and career== Cellucci was born in Hudson, Massachusetts, into a political family, the son of Priscilla M. (née Rose) and Argeo R. He and his wife, Jan, had two daughters, Kate and Anne (who is married to a Canadian hockey player, Craig Adams). He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1970 to 1978. He was a Republican, and held the distinction of never losing an election over his three decades in elected office in overwhelmingly Democratic Massachusetts. Cellucci was first elected to public office as a member of the Hudson Charter Commission in 1970.
